Wardleworth - Fireworks Safety |
As Bonfire Night approaches, we want to remind our community about the responsible use of fireworks. While they can be a source of celebration, they also pose serious risks if misused. Here's what you need to know: You must be 18 or over to buy or possess fireworks. Fireworks are only allowed between 7am and 11pm, except: Bonfire Night: until midnight New Year’s Eve, Diwali, and Chinese New Year: until 1am It is illegal to set off fireworks: In the street, in public places such as parks, near hospitals, care homes, or places of worship Fireworks can be expensive, but fines for misuse are even higher: Up to £5,000 finePossible imprisonment. On-the-spot fines and confiscation by police Fireworks release harmful chemicals and contribute to noise pollution. They can distress pets, wildlife, and vulnerable individuals. Consider silent fireworks or attending organised displays as safer alternatives. Animals can be terrified by loud bangs. Keep pets indoors, close windows, and play calming music. Let neighbours know if you plan to use fireworks. Children should never handle fireworks. Sparklers can reach temperatures of 2,000°C – hotter than a blowtorch. Always supervise young people and educate them on the dangers. Our team will be patrolling Wardleworth throughout the season. We will respond to reports of, Illegal sales, anti-social behaviour, unsafe use of fireworks, community safety is our priority – help us by reporting concerns. Attend organised displays where possible.
Follow the Firework Code: Light one at a time Keep a bucket of water nearby Never return to a lit firework Dispose of used fireworks safely Let’s celebrate responsibly and keep Wardleworth safe for everyone. If you have concerns or need advice, contact us via 101 or visit GMP website.
